Ingredients
I get it, fried food just tastes better. What if I told you that this fried chicken is juicy and the skin is sweet and crispy, all without submerging the chicken into a pool of oil. When trying to lose weight it can be challenging to create meals that are flavorful. This fried chicken is orgasmic, high in protein, and will change your life. The best part is, that all you need is 4 ingredients for the marinade.
- Olive Oil
- Honey
- Yellow Mustard
- Garlic Powder

Instructions
Start by mixing the marinade ingredients into a small bowl. Throw the chicken breast into the bowl and coat with the sweet and salty marinade. I let my marinated chicken sit in the refrigerator for ~20 minutes, but if you are really hungry, a quick dip in the sauce will do the trick. The whole idea behind marinating meat is to add flavor to food and make the meat more tender. However, keep in mind, that the air fryer will do that naturally.
Combine the olive oil, garlic, honey, and mustard into a small bowl and mix thoroughly.
Place the lean and high-protein chicken breast into the bowl. I used 2 chicken breasts here.
Coat the chicken breast in the marinade sauce.
Allow the lean chicken breast to soak up the flavors from the marinate by throwing the bowl in the refrigerator for ~30 minutes. If you are starving, just throw the chicken in the air fryer asap.
Hint: If you have extra marinade, try coating Brussel sprouts or other vegetables with the sauce. This way you can have flavorful chicken and vegetables!
Substitutions
The sweet and salty honey mustard marinate tastes great on any protein or vegetable. Not a meat-eater? I got you covered. Against bee honey? No worries.
- Chicken – instead of chicken, you can use tofu or tempeh to make this vegan and vegetarian.
- Honey – use maple syrup instead of bee honey to make this vegan.
- Olive Oil – the olive oil can be replaced with aquafaba [liquid from chick peas], to make this oil-free.
Even if you don’t follow these diets, keep these substitutions in mind if you are cooking for friends or family!
Variations
Of course, this fried chicken tastes amazing on a bed of salad or layered on a bowl of ramen.
- Spicy – add chili pepper flakes to the marinate
- Texture – add whole grain mustard to switch up the texture profile
- Sweet – add raspberries to the marinade to make raspberry honey mustard chicken
- Pizza – include the chicken on top of a pizza to make honey mustard pizza [we are drooling too…]

Storage
Store the air-fried chicken breast in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Good for 2-3 days.
Allow the lean chicken breast to marinate for up to 24 hours. This will allow the chicken to really absorb the flavors.

Honey Mustard Marinate
- ¼ Cup Raw Honey
- ⅓ Cup Yellow Mustard
- 2 Tbs Olive Oil This makes the chicken even more tender, trust me.
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
Protein
- 1 Pound Chicken Breast
Instructions
Prepare the chicken marinate
- Combine the marinate ingredients into a bowl and mix. The consistency should be a thick liquid.
- Add the chicken breast to the bowl. Spoon the marinate onto the chicken. I used my hands to rub the honey mustard glaze over the protein.
- All the chicken to sit in the marinate for ~30 minutes. If you are in a rush, feel free to submerge the chicken, then move on to step 4.
Air fry the chicken!
- Place the chicken in the air fryer. Press the "chicken" button or select 350 degrees farenhiet and cook for 13 minutes.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it sit for ~6 minutes beofre serving.
