When it comes to waffles, I can never decide if I want savory waffles with eggs and bacon or sweet waffles with syrup and fresh fruit. Therefore, this paleo waffle recipe was born. I decided to serve a combination of both savory and sweet and achieve the best of both worlds!
This recipe was inspired by my gourmet avocado toast recipe where I show you how to make savory toast and sweet toast for breakfast.
Moral of the story…why choose one when you can have both!

Ingredients
When it comes to cooking paleo recipes, I always use a blend of flour such as almond flour, coconut flour, arrowroot starch, and cassava flour.
If you don’t have all of those flours, don’t panic.
You can always buy Red Mill’s Paleo flour which is already pre-mixed.
Or you can skip the cassava flour and just use almond flour and starch. I will explain more on this below.

How to make almond flour paleo waffles:
These waffles come together quite fast and are foolproof! Make sure you have a waffle maker before getting started. This is one of my favorites.
The first step is to mix together all of your dry ingredients. Also, be sure to plug in your waffle maker so it can get hot while you are prepping the batter.
Whip your egg whites together. Then mix your other wet ingredients (and egg yolks) in a new and separate bowl.
Mix your wet and dry ingredients together. Be sure to not overmix the batter. You want the batter to be thick.
Spray your waffle maker with avocado oil. I would be generous with your spraying because the last thing you want is a waffle that is stuck to the waffle maker. Add your batter and allow your waffles to cook.
I love to top each of my waffles with different toppings that are sweet and savory.
Easy Paleo Waffle Toppings
Waffles are not complete without loads of toppings. Here are some of my favorites.
- Sweet – Smother your waffles in maple syrup and cut up some fresh fruit. I always love to use strawberries and blueberries. You can even add chocolate chips too if you are up for it. π
- Savory – Fry your favorite bacon or turkey bacon. I also use my air fryer to achieve the crispy texture. Then fry or poach an egg. Allow the running egg yolk to act as the sauce for the waffles.
If you are wild like me, cut your waffles in half and do one of each – that is one savory waffle and one sweet waffle!
Paleo Waffle Substitutions
Paleo baking tastes wonderful and feels great on my stomach, but sometimes I just don’t have all of the flours in the paleo flour blend as stated in the recipe.
- Coconut Flour – you can use cassava flour instead.
- Arrowroot starch – you can use tapioca or cornstarch instead.
- Date Sugar – you can use coconut sugar instead.

Can you make paleo waffles with a flax egg?
Yes. I haven’t tried this recipe with a flax egg, but it should work.

Easy Almond Flour Paleo Waffles (Savory and Sweet)
Equipment
- 1 waffle maker
Ingredients
- ΒΎ cup blanched almond flour
- ΒΌ cup cassava flour
- ΒΌ cup coconut flour
- ΒΌ cup tapioca flour or arrowroot
- Β½ tsp baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Β½ teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs (seperated – keep yolk and white seperated)
- Β½ cup coconut milk
- 7 Tbs coconut oil
- 2 Tbs maple syrup
Instructions
- Turn on the waffle maker so that it can warm up while you prep the batter.
- Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Set aside.
- Crack eggs and seperate by whites and yolks.
- Mix the wet ingredients into the egg yolk bowl. Mix egg YOLKS, coconut milk, melted coconut oil (melted and cooled), and maple syrup.
- Use a hand mixer to whip your egg whites until small foam pyramids form.
- Mix all of your ingredients together. Add wet ingredients to the dry and FOLD in your whipped egg whites.
- Spray your waffle maker with lots of oil spray. Spoon the batter into the waffle maker. Cook for ~5 minutes. Keep an eye on them!
- Top your waffles and enjoy!
